WINTER NEWS | BILATERAL INITIATIVE IN ICELAND
|
|
We would like to inform you that Fundatia Joana Grevers participated at the Bilateral Initiative RO - Cultura and has started a possible cooperation with the organization Academy of Senses from Iceland - partner state member of the programme. The bilateral initiative was an instrument of sharing knowledge between the applicant and the partner’s organization. The initiative helped the two institutions to build a relationship for future collaboration and to understand both capacities of contributing in the future project.

|
During the Bilateral Initiative the members of Fundatia Joana Grevers, could discover the partner's needs and perspectives. Also guided by the partner's involved members - Thordis Sigurðardóttir, Anna Eyjólfsdóttir and Ragnhildur Stefansdottir, they have been introduced to the Icelandic artscene and living culture. With this publication we are delighted to present you a short selection of the cultural activites during the initiative.

Eliasson was born in 1967. He grew up in Iceland and Denmark and studied from 1989 to 1995 at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Olafur Eliasson’s art is driven by his interests in perception, movement, embodied experience, and feelings of self. He strives to make the concerns of art relevant to society at large. Art, for him, is a crucial means for turning thinking into doing in the world. Eliasson’s works span sculpture, painting, photography, film, and installation. Not limited to the confines of the museum and gallery, his practice engages the broader public sphere through architectural projects, interventions in civic space, arts education, policy-making, and issues of sustainability and climate change. ©Studio Olafur Eliasson

Artists in Residence Programmes
The cultural exchange collaboration is considered to take place between Fundatia Joana Grevers - Romania and Academy of Senses - Iceland.
Both NGO institutions are organizing and sustaining contemporary art events and manifestations in remote places - one in the South East of Europe and the other in the North - West.
Cetate Arts Danube - Artists in Residence, takes place every summer on the shores of the Danube, in the environment on a 19th century estate, where the former cereal barn was transposed into exhibition spaces.
Academy of Senses - Artists in Residence, takes place in the North of Iceland, between mountains and geothermal rivers, where Thordis Sigurðardóttir, one of the members of the Academy, is restoring a former sheep shelter into an exhibition space.
During the Bilateral Initiative, after understanding the precis perspectives of our partner, we have decided together to start working at the EEA Grants of the programme RO - Cultura.

Last but not least, we have been delighted to meet RURI - Icelandic woman artist, representing the country at the 50th Edition of the Venice Biennale in 2003.
Before leaving Iceland we also had the fantastic chance to view a double rainbow before coming back home to Romania.
Iceland is the place to be! A very active and prosperous country where the peace of the scenery and the very inspired artists have successfully managed to create an intense art scene.
